Silver Pines Gameplay: Exploration, Combat and Puzzles

Scope: Silver Pines 1.0, single-player. Demo details are covered on the demo pages. One preview video was recorded before release, so its visuals may differ from 1.0.

Silver Pines is a 2D, side-view survival horror game with metroidvania-style exploration. Most decisions come from three things: whether a fight is worth its ammunition, whether a locked route is worth returning for, and how much inventory space you have left.

Movement and exploration

The view is side-on. Progress moves through streets, rooms and corridors, and the map guides the turns between them. Doors and hidden paths stay closed until you find a tool or weapon that opens them, and then you return to earlier areas.

Combat

Melee weapons wear down over time, and guns have limited ammunition. Each encounter asks whether the fight is worth what it costs in resources. The dodge is strong, but it uses stamina, so it cannot be relied on without limit.

Reloading is a real-time action. Some guns load one round at a time. Enemies keep moving while you reload or enter a code, so choose a safe spot before you start.

Puzzles

Puzzles are mostly codes and locks. The clues for them are in the environment, and the puzzles page lists the codes the sources confirm. Some locks have no clue that the sources could find.

Presentation

One source describes the characters as rotoscoped, meaning animated over filmed footage. The world uses photographic textures that have been painted over, with 2D sprites placed in a 3D setting. The map system lets you pin photographs to locations as reminders.

Pace

The sources do not give an objective measure of pace. One reviewer describes the combat as methodically dealing with monsters, which is a subjective judgement and not a timing figure.

Scope

This page covers the 1.0 release. The first IGN preview was recorded on May 26, 2026, before release, so details in that footage may not match the final game.
