The publisher acknowledged performance problems within 24 hours of release and shipped Hotfix 1 on October 9, 2026. This page separates what the publisher says from what testers measured before the patch.
What the publisher changed
Hotfix 1 added a DirectX 11 launch option to improve performance. The publisher’s note names Steam Deck specifically and suggests launching with DirectX 11 if performance is poor. The same patch also fixed several softlock scenarios, including one where enemies could block the elevator at Union Apartments.
The sources do not measure how much the DirectX 11 option improves performance, so this page gives no figure for it.
What testers found before the patch
One Steam Deck review tested the launch build. The full game often ran below 60 frames per second, even at its lowest graphics setting. The demo, by comparison, held 60 frames per second throughout that review.
The review’s suggested settings were: lock the frame rate to 30 FPS and use High graphics. For about 40 FPS, it suggests medium graphics with textures set to Low. The review notes that the Low setting removes some of the horror effects and makes the frame pacing less stable.
These results describe the launch build and one review. Do not read them as the current performance of the game.
Reported symptoms
One player report describes performance problems while live streaming or recording. It is a single case, so it does not show the problem is common.
Community sentiment
Steam reviews still show a “Very Positive” summary when checked on October 11, 2026, despite the performance debate. The ProtonDB page lists one report, which is too few to show a community verdict.
Before the demo
The publisher fixed a round of performance problems during the demo period as well. That means the issues were present before launch, not only after it.
What to do
If performance is poor, first confirm that you are on Hotfix 1. Then try the DirectX 11 launch option, which the publisher recommends. The sources do not give a further fix. For Steam Deck settings from the tested review, see the Steam Deck page. For PC hardware, see the system requirements page.
